Splice is a solderless crimp connection of two components formed by crimping a metal clip onto the ends of the components.
First, the insulation is stripped from the ends of the wires to connect (if necessary). Then the metal clip is cut from the spliceband (continuous reel of metal ribbon) and formed to an open-barrel terminal (U-shaped). Finally, it is compressed tightly around the bare wires. The deformation of the components and the terminal during the crimping process guarantees gastight connection.
Crimp width depends on the width of the crimping ribbon chosen. There are three standard widths according to its application:
■ 2 mm: electronics and low-current applications, general applications;
■ 4 mm: general applications;
■ 6 mm: power connections, high tensile strength.
We design custom connection and custom tooling so that it fits your products exactly.
You send us:
□ A dimensioned sketch of the specimen of an existing connection;
□ At least 20 to 50 components, as well as the wire used;
□ Ribbon material and crimp width (images 1,2) requirements.
We define appropriate splice and tooling and send you:
□ Crimped samples;
□ Pull force test results;
□ Crimp cross section visualization.

Standard connectors are unacceptable as concerns to saving space. Splice allows to make flat connection with minimum dimensions – ideal for sensors, bulbs, heating elements, etc. What is more, SM Contact presents nanosplice with minimum space requirements.
It is possible to perform various connections using the same splice band (defining and using adapted tooling).

Thanks to automation it Is possible to make up to 1000 splices per hour without any experience in splicing.
Soldering & welding can damage the components and the conductor because of heating. Crimp connection doesn’t involve heating.
